With the help of fabulous students, astute collaborators, and the support of the National Science Foundation, I have been designing + developing online educational games for girls for the last 6 years, and teach courses on gaming at Hunter College. I am PI or co-PI on 3 games-related research initiatives (and developing CS pedagogy on a fourth NSF, and consultant with the Feminist press on theirs...)

As an artist, gaming is a part of my practice, and I write about popular computer games, activist gaming, and artist's use of games.

In 2005 I began work with collaborator Helen Nissenbaum on a game design methodology to help infuse ethics and values into computer games -- starting wtih the very design process. This research was funded by NSF in Fall 2006. Look for publications under "writing"

2003-2006 I worked with collaborators Ken Perlin, Jan Plass, Ricki Goldman, and Andrea Hollingshead on The Rapunsel Project, a game environment designed to teach girls computer programming.

1997-2002, I developed The Adventures of Josie True series of games with my students: Josie is a web-based game for girls designed to encourage exploration and promote confidence in math and the sciences in a multicultural, educational software package.
