Personal Nomadic Home:
Intentional Modular Clan Housing for Urban, Suburban + Rural living

: : concepts : : homes : : community : : rooms : : accessories : :

Humans are not inherently selfish. Instead, family units do altruistic things for each other that they might not do for the world at large. This is perhaps survival of the fittest- parents will do anything they can to ensure that their genes are carried forward into generations to come. In pre-history, this altruism extended towards the members of the entire clan. They lived together, hunted together and cared for each other’s children as well as their own.

As social structures have d/evolved, people have become separated from these small cohesive units into even smaller familial units that don’t have the support system in place to adequately raise children and live full productive lives. The idea for this project comes from the thought that if people could live in intentional, planned communities, while retaining privacy and freedom of movement, the quality of life would improve for all involved.

As Gen X paves way for Gen Y, a revolutionary social change is prevalent; there are limited boundaries of self as the digital divide narrows and the global village expands. With an unstable economy, geo-political divide and global communication, the need for permanent residency is dissipating. Alarming statistics reveal that half of all marriages end in divorce. Commitment is failing. We are finding permanency difficult. Dedication to each other, place and self is suffering. Life spans are increasing. Technology is challenging our social norms. Communication is internalized. We are mesmerized by our limitless boundaries.

Community
The community becomes the central item, because there would be a center ring that all homes would connect to. This central ring would be the public community area, and depending on who makes up the community, what would be inside this area. If it is all families, then playground areas, bbqs, central child care center would make up the center. For artists, it may include collaborative studio spaces, kilns, sound studios etc. For anti-govt, militia style folk, they could set up training and shooting ranges inside this community area.

ACCESSORIES

BIO-TECH PETS - will not require feeding them, refilling water bowls or walks but will offer their users what they remember about the first domesticated animals.

DOGGY PILLOW: this accessory will be a 24" x 24" pillow with the following characteristics:
-internal warmth to cuddle with in front TV or around sitting table; -heart beat that carries that drifts the user off to pleasant dreams, and, finally; -long haired or soft haired options depending on allergies or choice of the user. Some people prefer the feel of Australian Shephards more than Boxers and their accompanying smells.

DOGGY GREETER: this accessory will hang next to front door and consist of two ears, a mouth with large teeth and an extra long tongue.
- the "GREETER" will recognize the owner and greet with a nice yelp; -if desired, the owner can be licked by the GREETER; -if an unknown person approaches the house, the GREETER becomes a PROTECTOR and barks alerting owner to the person's presence.

The individual homes would be prefab exterior and modular interior. They are also mobile unto themselves, and can physically attach to a community- in multiple ways.

The homes would come in standard sizes from XS to XL, giving people from the widest ranges of income the ability to purchase their own home.

CIRCLE OF LIFE WALL
A four-walled room a la "living room" will feature one wall that is completely clear, "see through." Suction pumps will force in the liquid waste from all sources in the house. Shower waste and other bathroom waste, washing machine, kitchen sink and food grinder.

Please remember, that by this time in the future/history, all products will be made from org
anic and recycleable materials. Hence, foods, soaps, and all packaging can have different colors and can be reused in this manner. For instance, your yoghurt container will be made of a green colored container that will be shredded with "garbage disposer" with rest of kitchen waste, suctioned into wall to create mosaic and then suctioned for a second time to rooftop vegtable garden that will reuse your organic wasts.
This will create a visual diagnosis of what you are eating and if you are healthy as the 5000 year old Chinese medicine dictates. It is the most beautiful organic visual mosaic offered...for FREE! The wall will feature a further suctioning force that pulls this organic, but beautiful waste, up the wall to the roof. On the root top is a natural and organic garden. This garden will receive all of its nutrients from inside the house continuing and improving on the idea of compost. Therefore, by examining and appreciating your waste products and reusing those products to further give you life, a true CIRCLE OF LIFE is created with this wall.

ROOMS

Nomadic Restoration Chamber
"The Nomadic Restoration Chamber" is a portable Tipi (triangular) shaped "room". The triangular shape is significant, but I won't go into that now. Diameter is 5 feet approximately. The NRC will be particularly important in a nanotech home, since natural environmental elements will be manipulated and distorted through the use of technology in a home like this. This will be a way for humans to restore their natural organic/physical rythyms; lessen the damage of random electromagnetic waves (the body is a wet electrical device, let us not forget) and allow for a total "shut out" of activity and sound for chosen periods of time. I can discuss some previous research done in this area if we need to "prove" this. The science is already there. The NRC can be used anywhere that can offer a source of energy to run it, or maybe it runs on something else. It's transportable, but I'm imagining that it's more like moving around a "tent" than something that fits neatly into a duffel bag or something.

Material: Made of a durable synthetic mixed with a natural fiber/element or made from totally recycled synthetics. Must be able to fold up and open up easily. Maybe wheels at the bottom. Because of the shape of this, you would necessarily sit down in the middle. I would like to imagine something that you could lay down inside of, but then the ease of transport could get messed up. It would have to be larger. Once inside the chamber, you have the choice of several "levels" of interaction. All this is programmed from the inside. The simplest level is purely for relaxation so that a child can use it if desired. Level 1: Soundproof. A negative ion generater goes on. The air then reproduces beach enviornment; very conducive (sp?) to relaxation. The inside enviornment of the NRC is entirely a nanotech-devised screen surface and various visual wall environments can be produced. You sit on a "temper-pedic" style cushion on the floor that fits the diameter of the Tipi. Temperature control exactly balances out in tandem with your own, so it is a perfectly comfortable air environment.

Level 2: Progams of "Hemi Sync" (Hemispheric Syncronization) are heard. These are sound developed techniques created by the Monroe Institute and work on specific levels of the brain through sound to "syncronize" both sides of the brain. Using these musical formats creates a central connection in the brain that is physically tangible, and many different kinds already exist for things such as relaxation, concentration, etc. I believe the website is www.monroeinstitute.com, but I'm not sure now. There are other researchers who have done this, but they have had the most success and the longest history so far in the field. Why Hemi-Sync and not the fake sound of birds chirping or water hitting a shoreline? I can elaborate, but not now.

Level 3: Bands of natural-based light (not flourescent) hit the body at specific points. Energy centers of the body respond naturally to certain colors; and there are seven total, ranging from red (base of body) to purple/indigo (above the head). It's a kind of rainbow effect, I guess. These bands of colored light come out from the interior walls and affect these areas of the body by relaxing, energizing and restoring natural rhythms. There is already a technology that has developed from studies about this; I have seen it and it has been demonstrated on me, but it has never been done to this enviornmental degree, where you sit in the middle of the light coming at you from all around. At this point, you can also opt for the sound-tones that relate to these energy centers heard in sequence from bottom to top. I also have recordings of this, and it's very relaxing. (ha, like I do a lot of that!).
When it's time to go: You set a timer before you go in. When time is up, the temperature changes enough to motivate activity; at least it is noticable enough to change your mental state and alert you that it's time to go.

The nose factor: It might also be cool to create a fragrance-diffusion method within or around the NRC so that chosen natural scents can be enjoyed while you are restoring yourself. The only problem I see with this is that someone else's lingering favorite scent may still be around inside the environment and that can be a problem . However, it allows the use of an additional sensory device, which might be helpful.

BEDs and Other Sinking Objects
It is a white room. It is a room which remembers.

[telling effect] is a completely impressionable room, which will serve an artistic work and a technological and sociological research tool. The "bed" investigator aims to explore the convergence of everyday physical space and digital technology through full collaborative inquiry into ubiquitous computing.
